Attack of the PCP-SL in Putaqasa
On September 14, 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso attacked Putaqasa in Sacsamarca, killing nine community members and burning houses. This community was the target of multiple attacks by the PCP-SL in retaliation for having formed self-defense committees.
On September 14, 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso raided Putaqasa, part of the Sacsamarca district. During the attack, nine community members were killed and houses were set on fire. This was one of multiple attacks on this community, which had previously been razed in 1987. Subsequently, on February 10, 1989, the PCP-SL raided Putaqasa again, killing two additional community members. The community continued to be the target of attacks in September 1989 and February 1990, with nine and two community members killed respectively, in addition to the burning of houses and premises.
