Operation Falcon - DECAS departs for Tambo to reorganize mountain patrols
200 DECAS ronderos start Operation Halcón to reorganize self-defense in La Mar highlands
On August 9, 1989, a group of 200 ronderos left Santa Rosa for Tambo in an action called operation Halcón. The reason for this operation was to reorganize the rondas in the highland districts of La Mar province, whose authorities, faced with the advance of the PCP-SL, had sent a request for support to the Pichiwillca headquarters. The DECAS not only responded to the request and sent a group of special commandos to Tambo for a year, but also assumed the costs of their maintenance with hired ronderos dedicated exclusively to the fight against the PCP-SL.
