Second armed strike in Central Region

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso called a second armed strike in the Central Region from July 27-29, 1989, prior to the third national mining strike. The measure sought to radicalize the workers' movement in a context of intense militarization and state repression.

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso called a second armed strike in the Central Region for July 27, 28 and 29, 1989. This measure was carried out in the context of the third national mining strike that would begin on August 14, 1989, and was part of the PCP-SL's strategy to generate conditions to radicalize the mining workers' movement. The armed strike took place in a highly militarized environment, with a strong presence of the forces of law and order which carried out continuous patrols, searches and arrests in the area. This call was preceded by a series of attacks against Centromín Perú installations between December 1988 and April 1989, including the dynamiting of cable towers, compressors, pipelines and locomotives.
