Armed Class Strike

Armed strike called by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso on July 20, 1989 in Lima, organized through class-based workers' committees. The measure showed the limited political advances of the subversive organization in the capital.

The PCP-Sendero Luminoso called a class-struggle armed strike on July 20, 1989 in Lima, as part of a strategy to increase its presence in the capital and force the radicalization of the trade union movement. This strike was organized through organizations such as the Comité de Lucha de Obreros y Trabajadores Clasistas de la carretera Central (CLOTCCC) and the Comité de Lucha de Obreros Clasistas de la Avenida Argentina (CLOCAA). The measure evidenced the limited political advances of the PCP-SL in Lima, since it did not achieve the objectives desired by its promoters. The strike was part of an ascending sequence of similar calls which extended between 1988 and 1992.
