PCP-SL attack on army patrol and bombing of La Morada
Shining Path attack provoked military bombing that destroyed the town of La Morada
A PCP-SL column attacked an army patrol from the Madre Mía base, a few hundred meters from the village, wounding a captain. The villagers fled into the jungle to escape retaliation from military patrols, which took two hours to arrive by land and with helicopter gunships that attacked the village, launched rockets and set fire to the houses, which had previously been looted. For years La Morada became a ghost town.
