MRTA kidnaps CORDESAM president demanding improvements for San Martin
MRTA members stopped the vehicle of the President of the Departmental Development Corporation of San Martin, Demetrio Tafur, 65 kilometers from Tarapoto and forced him to get out and drive it to an unknown location. MRTA made demands related to San Martin: approval of budgets for road improvement, payment to rice and corn producers, suspension of the state of emergency, clarification of human rights violations and holding of a referendum on the autonomous region of San Martin. The Catholic Church acted as mediator and he was released after 33 days of captivity near Rioja.
