Military incursion in Huaycán

One thousand soldiers of the Peruvian Army raided the human settlement of Huaycán on June 16, 1989, arresting more than 800 people for being undocumented and suspected of terrorism.

On June 16, 1989, 1,000 Peruvian Army soldiers raided the human settlement of Huaycán. During the military operation, the armed forces detained more than 800 people, identified as undocumented and suspected of committing terrorist acts. This action took place in the context of intense police and military operations that were taking place in Lima during that period, including a gigantic operation days earlier that had resulted in the arrest of more than 15,000 people following a bomb attack in Barrios Altos.
