In June 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso perpetrated a collective murder in the locality of Isccana, district of Luricocha, province of Huanta. Seven people were killed in this event. This event took place during the period of intensification of the internal armed conflict between 1988-1991, when the PCP-SL launched a new offensive after declaring the transition to the "strategic balance" stage. The peasant patrols lived a second experience of sustained confrontations in these years, coinciding with bad harvests that accentuated the rejection of the Shining Path columns.
