Murder of lawyer Marcial Capeletti

On May 29, 1989, lawyer Marcial Capeletti was assassinated by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso while giving his course at the San Cristobal de Huamanga National University. Capeletti was one of the leaders of the then ruling Peruvian Aprista Party (APRA). This assassination took place in the context of an intensification of the internal armed conflict between 1988 and 1991, a period in which the highest number of victims of the three UNSCH universities was recorded. The crime was part of the PCP-SL's strategy to selectively eliminate authorities and political figures linked to the APRA government of Alan García.
