Murder of Professor Marcelo Capeletti

Professor Marcelo Capeletti, an APRA militant and former president of the Ayacucho Development Corporation, was assassinated by the Shining Path PCP on May 29, 1989 while giving classes at the San Cristobal de Huamanga National University.

On May 29, 1989, professor Marcelo Capeletti was assassinated by the Shining Path PCP while giving classes at the San Cristobal de Huamanga National University. Capeletti was an APRA militant and former president of the Ayacucho Development Corporation. This assassination took place in a context of intense violence in the city of Huamanga, especially between the end of 1989 and the beginning of 1990, coinciding with the national elections. The University was a privileged space for violence during this period, registering the highest number of victims in its three levels between 1989 and 1991.
