Statement of the vicariates of Puno against the PCP-SL
The Catholic vicariates of Puno, Juliaca, Ayaviri and Sicuani issued a joint statement condemning the coercion, authoritarianism and destruction of the PCP-SL in its attempt to turn Puno into a new Ayacucho.
The vicariates of Puno, Juliaca, Ayaviri and Sicuani issued a joint statement expressing their condemnation and rejection of the actions of the Communist Party of Peru - Shining Path (PCP-SL). The communiqué specifically criticized the coercion, authoritarianism and destruction that characterized the actions of the subversive group in the region. Church authorities expressed their concern about the PCP-SL's interest in turning Puno into a new Ayacucho, in reference to the intense violence that had affected that department. This pronouncement took place in a context of intensification of terrorist activities in the southern Andean region of the country.
