Taking of Pacaypasa and capture of Demetrio Tafúr Ruiz

On May 25, 1989, the MRTA raided Pacaypasa as part of its military actions in the department of San Martin. During this operation, the guerrillas captured the president of CORDE-San Martin, Demetrio Tafúr Ruiz. This action was part of a series of incursions carried out by the Northeastern Front of the MRTA at the beginning of 1989, which included the capture of towns such as Pilluana, Shapaja, San José de Sisa, Peleje and Papaplaya. The MRTA would later retake Pacaypasa on November 22 of the same year.
