Military intervention in the Universidad Nacional del Centro del Perú (UNCP)

On May 11, 1989, military and police forces twice raided the UNCP in search of terrorists, in the midst of an armed strike called by subversive groups in Junin. President Garcia traveled to Huancayo during these events to urge the population to overcome fear.

On May 11, 1989, the Army and the National Police intervened twice at the National University of Central Peru in search of terrorist elements. The intervention took place due to the distribution of flyers announcing an armed strike on the 10th, 11th and 12th in the department of Junin. In the midst of the strike called by subversive groups, President Alan Garcia traveled to Huancayo to make a strong appeal to the population of Huancayo to overcome fear. This intervention was framed in a context of intense subversive activity of the PCP-SL in the UNCP, where militants carried out agitation and armed propaganda.
