On May 11, 1989, the Army and the National Police intervened twice at the National University of Central Peru (UNCP) in search of terrorist elements. The intervention took place due to the distribution of flyers announcing an armed strike on the 10th, 11th and 12th in the department of Junin. This armed strike was called by the PCP-SL and had a significant impact, paralyzing all activities and preventing the normal supply of products to the capital. The strike with the greatest impact was carried out on May 10 and 12 in the departments of Junín, Pasco and Huánuco.
