Military detains and tortures 33 teachers in Vilcashuamán, Cangallo and Huamanga bases
In May 1989, the military detained 33 teachers from different places and took them to the Vilcashuamán base under the command of Lieutenant Oso. They remained there for approximately one week. Ten were transferred to Pampa-Cangallo and four of them to the Huamanga base. In all these places they were tortured repeatedly: hung with their hands tied, submerged in wells of water, tied up as if crucified, stepped on the head, beaten with hammers and subjected to electric shocks to the ears and anus.
