Municipal elections in Villa El Salvador

Municipal elections held in Villa El Salvador in May 1989, won by Izquierda Unida, despite attempts by the PCP-SL to sabotage them. The elections had the support of the majority of the population and police guarantees.

In May 1989 municipal elections were held in Villa El Salvador despite attempts by the PCP-SL to sabotage them. The elections were held with the majority support of the population and the guarantees requested from the National Police. Izquierda Unida (IU) easily won the municipal elections in the district. This electoral process took place in a context of confrontation with the PCP-SL, which had called for an armed strike on April 29 and 30, 1991 in rejection of the popular organization of the district.
