Regional armed strikes in May and June
The PCP-SL called regional armed strikes in May and June 1989 which paralyzed activities in Junín, Pasco and Huánuco. The most significant strike occurred on May 10-12, 1989.
In the months of May and June 1989, the PCP-SL called regional "armed strikes" which paralyzed all activities and prevented the normal supply of products to the capital. The strike with the greatest impact was carried out on May 10, 11 and 12 in the departments of Junin, Pasco and Huanuco. On May 11, 1989, the Army and the National Police twice raided the Universidad Nacional del Centro in search of terrorist elements, due to the distribution of flyers announcing the armed strike. These armed strikes were part of the PCP-SL's strategy to demonstrate its territorial control and mobilization capacity in the central region of the country.
