Assassination of MRTA members in Los Molinos
Clash between an MRTA column and the Peruvian Army in Los Molinos, Jauja, resulting in the death of 58 MRTA members, 6 soldiers and 2 civilians. The insurgent detachment was on its way to take the city of Tarma when it was intercepted.
On April 28, 1989, an MRTA detachment traveling in two trucks toward Tarma to take the city was discovered by a Peruvian Army patrol in the Molinos district, eight kilometers east of Jauja. According to the initial report, 62 MRTA members and eight soldiers were killed in the confrontation. However, the figures were later corrected to 58 MRTA members, six EP members and two civilians killed. The event occurred in the context of MRTA operations in the central region of the country.
