Clash in Molinos between the MRTA and the Army
Armed confrontation in Molinos, Jauja, between the Peruvian Army and an MRTA detachment on its way to take Tarma, resulting in the death of 63 presumed MRTA members. This event marked the decline of the MRTA presence in the central region.
On April 28, 1989, an armed confrontation took place between an Army patrol and a detachment of MRTA militants in the district of Molinos, province of Jauja. The subversive group was on its way to take the city of Tarma when it was intercepted by military forces. This event was one of the most shocking in the Mantaro Valley area and marked a turning point in the presence of MRTA in the region. As a result of this confrontation, 63 presumed MRTA members were killed, which represented a significant defeat for this subversive organization and considerably weakened its urban work in the department of Junin, ceding ground to the PCP-SL.
