Three university students murdered by PCP-SL on university campus

On April 28, 1989, the Shining Path PCP assassinated three university students on the university campus, thus initiating the killing of students. This triggered a spiral of violence that included disappearances and extrajudicial executions of members of the university community.

On April 28, 1989, the Shining Path PCP assassinated three university students on the same university campus. This marked the beginning of the number of student murders perpetrated by the subversive organization. Subsequently, members of the university community allegedly linked to the Shining Path PCP began to be the target of disappearances and extrajudicial executions perpetrated by paramilitaries, which numbered several dozen. The best known case was the arrest of the vice-rector of the UNC, Jaime Cerrón Palomino, on June 8, 1990, whose body was found dead on June 19 with visible signs of torture.
