On April 25, 1989, armed hikers entered the university city of Cuzco, plastering the premises with banners. This action was followed by assassinations of students in the following months.
On April 25, 1989, a group of armed Shining Pathists entered the university city of Cuzco, and banners were put up on some of its premises. This action achieved the media repercussion desired by the PCP-SL, becoming a 'sounding board' for their activities. Subsequently, the PCP-SL carried out assassinations of university students, including Magnolia Zuñiga on July 2 and Walter Huayllani on July 7 of the same year. This entry marked an escalation in the violent actions of the PCP-SL in the university environment in Cusco.
