Military intervention in San Marcos and La Cantuta universities

In the early morning of April 20, 1989, soldiers and police entered San Marcos and La Cantuta universities. This military intervention took place in a context of intensification of the anti-subversive struggle by the APRA government. The operation was part of the actions of the forces of law and order to combat the presence of subversive elements in higher education centers. The intervention took place days after the government announced more severe measures against terrorism and in the midst of a national political and economic crisis.
