Capture of Miguel Rincón Rincón of MRTA

Miguel Rincón Rincón, leader of the MRTA, was captured on April 16, 1989 in downtown Lima and imprisoned in the Castro Castro prison.

Miguel Rincón Rincón, leader of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA), was captured in downtown Lima on April 16, 1989. After his capture, he was imprisoned in the Castro Castro prison. This arrest represented a significant blow to the command structure of the MRTA. The capture took place in a context of intensification of anti-subversive operations by the APRA government of Alan Garcia.
