Assassination of community authorities of Chongos Alto and Chicche
PCP-SL assassinated twelve communal authorities of Chongos Alto and Chicche in a public square.
Forty members of the PCP-SL, under the leadership of comrade 'Rosa', arrived in a stolen bus to Chongos Alto. Armed with a list and covered with balaclavas, they took twelve communal authorities of Chongos Alto and Chicche from their homes. They took them to the main square where, in a situation of absolute defenselessness, they slit their throats and shot them, leaving signs over their corpses saying 'This is how the dogs of the State die'. Later they burned and dynamited the Banco de la Nación, the medical post, the peace court and the municipality. The authorities had been assassinated for meeting clandestinely to carry out their duties and resist Sendero.
