Murder in Chaquicocha

On April 5, 1989, the Shining Path PCP assassinated a municipal agent and a watchman of the SAIS Túpac Amaru in the Chaquicocha plaza, in addition to killing 150 fine sheep. This attack was part of the escalation of subversive violence in the highlands of Junín during the bloodiest year of the conflict.

On April 5, 1989, a subversive column of the Shining Path PCP assassinated a municipal agent and a guard of the SAIS Túpac Amaru production unit in the town square of Chaquicocha. During the same raid, the subversives killed 150 fine sheep belonging to the production unit. This attack was part of a wave of violence that the PCP-SL unleashed in the highlands of Junin during 1989, when the subversive organization pushed for absolute control associated with the strategic balance agreed upon by its leaders. The action was part of the period with the highest number of deaths and disappearances in the history of the internal armed conflict.
