The Peruvian Congress decides to advance the general elections from the second Sunday of April to the second Sunday of March 1990, in the midst of a serious economic and political crisis.
The Peruvian Congress decides to bring forward the general elections to the second Sunday of March 1990, instead of the second Sunday of April as indicated in the current electoral law. This decision was taken in a context of serious economic and political crisis, with an accumulated inflation of 1722% in 1988 and an increase in political violence. The electoral advance occurred during the interpellation to the cabinet of Armando Villanueva del Campo, who had to respond on issues of economic crisis and subversion, particularly the Uchiza case.
