PCP-SL assault on Uchiza police station
PCP-Sendero Luminoso attack on the Uchiza police post with the support of the local population and drug traffickers, resulting in 10 policemen killed and the destruction of the police post.
On March 27, 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an attack on the Uchiza police post that resulted in the death of 10 policemen and the complete destruction of the post. The attack was supported by the people of Uchiza in combination with drug traffickers in the area. This event was later the subject of an interpellation of the Villanueva cabinet before the Chamber of Deputies on April 26, where they had to respond on the Uchiza case along with other issues of economic crisis and subversion. The attack evidenced the alliance between the PCP-SL and drug traffickers in the Alto Huallaga area.
