PCP-SL attack on Uchiza police station

On March 27, 1989, the PCP-SL attacked the police station in Uchiza, province of Mariscal Caceres. This attack marked a turning point with respect to the intervention of the Police and the Armed Forces in their fight against subversion in the coca-growing zone. The event demonstrated the level of territorial control that the PCP-SL had achieved in Alto Huallaga and the vulnerability of the forces of law and order in the region.
