Attack against Centromín in Cerro de Pasco

Attack by the PCP-Sendero Luminoso against Centromín installations in Cerro de Pasco on March 23, 1989, which caused the death of two policemen and three company employees. It was part of a campaign of violence against state mining in preparation for an armed strike.

On March 23, 1989, the PCP-Sendero Luminoso carried out an attack against Centromín's facilities in Cerro de Pasco as part of a new attack aimed at generating conditions for an upcoming armed strike. This action cost the lives of two members of the police forces and three company employees. The attack was part of a series of violent actions against the state mining company that intensified between December 1988 and April 1989. Days later, on April 7, the PCP-SL dynamited a locomotive also owned by Centromín in Cerro de Pasco, and on April 16 assassinated Seferino Requis, general secretary of the Cerro de Pasco union base.
