Eviction of langainos by Canipaco villagers
The community members of the Canipaco valley evicted the Langainos who had invaded land in Chongos Alto with the support of the PCP-SL. Those captured were handed over to the Huancayo National Police.
On March 16, 1989, community members from the Canipaco valley arrived in the area that had been occupied by the Langainos (inhabitants of Yauyos province, Lima) and began the eviction. Previously, the langainos and community members from the Huasicancha district had invaded the Chongos Alto lands, supported by members of the PCP-SL. After the eviction, the Canipaco community members decided by majority vote to hand over the captured langainos to the Huancayo National Police. This event took place in the context of land conflicts between communities and the presence of the PCP-SL in the area, which exacerbated existing tensions.
