Garcia convenes extraordinary legislature on regional governments

President Garcia called an extraordinary congressional session in March 1989 to discuss and approve the law on relations between the national government and the regional governments.

President Alan Garcia Perez signed the supreme decree calling the Congress to an extraordinary legislature. The purpose of this call was to discuss and approve the law on relations between the national government and the regional governments. This measure was part of the regionalization process that the government had been promoting. The call took place in a context of political and economic crisis, as well as an intensification of armed violence in the country.
