Large march of peasants and natives in Pucallpa

Large march organized by the CCP in Pucallpa on February 9, 1989 to celebrate an agreement after a three-week strike of peasants and Shipibo-Conibo natives. The mobilization was later violently repressed resulting in 8 deaths and numerous wounded.

The Confederation of Peruvian Peasants (CCP) organized a large march of peasants and natives in the city of Pucallpa on February 9, 1989. This mobilization was held to celebrate an agreement reached after a three-week strike by the peasants grouped in the Federation of Peasants of the Department of Ucayali (FECADU) and the Shipibo-Conibo natives. The strike had been promoted by the CCP in response to the fact that the state companies ENCI and ECASA were unable to pay for the peasants' products due to the explosion of hyperinflation in 1989. This event was one of the largest peasant and native mobilizations in Pucallpa, although it was later violently repressed by police forces, resulting in 8 deaths and a considerable number of injuries.
