Capture of abigeos in Colquemarca

On February 9, 1989, the communal peasant patrol of Colquemarca captured a pseudo-terrorist band of abigeos, demonstrating the autonomous organization of the communities against crime in the province of Chumbivilcas.

The communal peasant patrol captured a pseudo-terrorist band of cattle rustlers in Colquemarca, province of Chumbivilcas. This event took place in the context of the fight against cattle rustling in the high provinces of Cuzco, where the PCP-SL had gained initial support by fighting the abigeos. However, the communities began to organize themselves autonomously through peasant patrols to capture the cattle rustlers and hand them over to the police, which was considered an act of treason from the Shining Path's point of view, which sought a monopoly of justice against cattle rustling.
