Installation of the first extraordinary legislature

On February 6, 1989, the first extraordinary legislature of the Peruvian Congress was installed, called by the Executive to approve the bill on amparo and on the elections of the regional assemblies.

On February 6, 1989, the first extraordinary legislature called by the Executive Branch was installed. The purpose of this extraordinary session of Congress was to culminate the process of approval of the bill on amparo and on the elections of the regional assemblies. Both laws were subsequently enacted by President Alan Garcia Perez. This extraordinary legislature took place in a context of political and economic crisis, as well as an intensification of political violence in the country.
