Shining Path burns homes and looting in communities

In 1989, the Shining Path destroyed and set fire to the town of Aguaytia, looting schools and homes.

In 1989, Sendero Luminoso entered the native community of Aguaytia, destroying the village, burning houses and looting the school, tools and pots. The villagers stated that their homes and property were destroyed, leaving them in a situation of extreme vulnerability. This pattern of destruction was repeated in multiple communities during the internal armed conflict.
